EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
I received a Specialist's Degree (EdS) in Psychology and Counseling from Arkansas State University in 2009 and a Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Psychology from Lyon College in 2004. I have been a professional counselor since 2009, having successfully met the professional counseling standards established by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHC license number 11983).
I have over fifteen years of experience in the mental health field, having worked in a variety of counseling settings including inpatient and outpatient agencies, a university counseling center, public school systems, community mental health centers, residential centers, non-profit counseling agencies, and now in my private practice in Black Mountain.
CERTIFICATIONS & SPECIAL TRAINING
I have completed training Level I and II in Brainspotting. Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method hat works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, and a variety of other challenging symptoms.
I am certified in Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy (EDIT™) and work with individuals struggling with eating disorders and body image issues as an EDIT™ Certified II Counselor.
I also specialize in maternal mental health and have completed the professional certificate training with Postpartum Support International in order to specialize in the treatment of perinatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
Philosophy & Approach
I use a wide variety of methods and techniques when working with clients. Every client is different, however, so my approach varies from client to client. Most importantly, I honor each person as an individual and provide a safe, confidential space for exploration, growth, and healing to begin. I believe strongly in treating clients holistically--considering the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of each person. The techniques I use are always intended to assist with understanding or expressing self more fully, gaining insight, making desired changes, and assessing current behaviors. In my work with clients I most often use Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, somatic interventions, and mindfulness techniques.
